The project is to give pupils an understanding of who William Wilberforce was and what an important part he played in history. Pupils will be encouraged to learn about his life and achievements and input this on a timeline along with an explanation. They will learn about slavery, why it is wrong and also discuss what is wrong in the world today. Pupils will take charge of a series of written and spoken tasks including a speech and a letter.
This project can be covered in isolation or as part of a project about history. It is part of the ”KS1 Heroes of History” series of project packs and is designed to create a number of language rich speaking and listening opportunities leading into high quality writing outcomes. Activities leading to written outcomes can be taught as a sequence of lessons or as stand alone activities.
