The project is based on the discovery of a “new” species of bird in the local area. Pupils will be encouraged to design the bird and to invent different aspects of its life and characteristics. As the “discoverer” of the bird, pupils will take charge of a series of written and spoken compositions which introduce the new creature to the wider world.
This project can be covered in isolation or as part of a project about wildlife and nature. It is part of the ”KS1 writing comes to life” series of project packs and is designed to create a number of language rich speaking and listening opportunities leading into high quality writing outcomes. Activities leading to written outcomes can be taught as a sequence of lessons or as stand alone activities.
