This project provides a series of activities that explores the world of Ancient Greece. From language, science, maths and philosophy to sport, government and the arts, the Ancient Greeks were a fascinating people and their influence can still be felt today. Children will be amazed to learn how much of modern life can be traced back to a civilisation that lived more than 3000 years ago! Children will explore the Gods, Goddesses and other characters from Greek mythology through stories and the rich art and craft legacy the Ancient Greeks left behind.

As the Ancient Greeks are famous for their beautiful pottery and sculptures, this unit of work will allow children to develop skills and processes used when working with clay. Children will develop skills in moulding, shaping, pinching, rolling, flattening and using tools to carve and scratch details in clay. Creative outcomes using apps and artwork produced by the children will also support cross-curricular links with Design and Technology, Literacy, Numeracy and History.

The activities will encourage the use of art and design vocabulary as well as reinforcing specific topic vocabulary. Children will have repeated opportunities to use this vocabulary in context during class discussions, written tasks and when evaluating their own work and the work of others.
